NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire man charged in a deadly 2009 home invasion and machete attack is taking the witness stand.

Christopher Gribble, 21, of Brookline has admitted stabbing Kimberly Cates to death and trying to kill her 11-year-old daughter in the hamlet of Mont Vernon. But he claims he is not guilty by reason of insanity.

The trial under way in Nashua is to determine Gribble’s sanity at the time of the crime.

He was escorted to the stand after a brief recess Monday before jurors were to come in the courtroom. The lawyers were conferring with the judge.
