San Diego State defeats Long Beach State 77-73

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Jamal Franklin hit two free throws with 3.9 seconds left in overtime on Saturday to lift San Diego State past Long Beach State 77-73 at Viejas Arena.

Franklin scored 14 of his team-high 21 points after halftime for the Aztecs (5-1), who improved their home winning streak over unranked opponents to 47. James Rahon had 20 points and Xavier Thames scored eight of his 15 points in overtime for San Diego State.

In its previous game on Wednesday, Long Beach State won 86-76 at No. 9 Pittsburgh.

Casper Ware led the 49ers (2-1) with a game-high 26 points. Larry Anderson also scored 25 points in a losing effort.

Trailing by 2, Ware was fouled by Franklin with 3.3 seconds left in regulation and made a pair of free throws to tie the score at 65 and extend the game to overtime.
