Northwest Natural Gas rates to drop Nov. 1

Northwest Natural Gas Co. rates will drop for the third year in a row, following a decision Thursday by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission. Effective Nov. 1, rates will drop by about 2.2 percent — saving a typical household using 56 therms per month about $1.51 on each month’s bill.

Northwest Natural adjusts its rates annually to reflect changes in wholesale natural gas prices, which have declined as new sources of the fuel have surged throughout the U.S., and weak economic conditions have kept demand down.

Portland-based Northwest Natural serves more than 675,000 residential and business customers in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
