Sportsmen age 15 and younger will get a chance to hunt for pheasants with the help of an experienced hunter and dog on Sept. 24 and 25 in the Vancouver Lake lowlands.

The Vancouver Wildlife League and Pheasants Forever are sponsoring the youth hunt along with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Hunting will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Wildlife League members will operate the Vancouver Lake site on LaFrambois Road near the Vancouver Lake boat ramp, while Pheasants Forever will handle the Shillapoo site, approximately a half-mile north of Frenchmen’s Bar Park.

Young hunters need the appropriate state hunting license. Steel shot shells are required.

Hunters without dogs will be paired with a hunter and dog.

Pheasants Forever will sponsor a youth fun shoot from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Vancouver Trap Club, 11100 N.E. 76th St.

Shooters age 15 and younger will have their first round of trap paid for by the local PF chapter.

Instructors will be available to assist young shooters and prepare them for hunting on the weekend.
