NEW YORK (AP) — Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray overcame early breaks in the first two sets Monday to win his first-round U.S. Open match 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 over Alex Bogomolov Jr. of Russia.

Third-seeded Murray won the final five games of the first set and the last four games of the second after falling behind early to the 73rd-ranked Bogomolov.

Murray, who won the gold medal in his home country earlier this summer, is trying to become the first man to win the Olympics and the U.S. Open in the same year.

He finished with seven aces and 46 winners as he wore down Bogomolov, who was born in Moscow but moved to Miami and competed as an American until this year, when he switched to play for Russia in the Davis Cup.
