Stephen F. Austin defeats Texas A&M-CC 67-56

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Taylor Smith had 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead Stephen F. Austin over Texas A&M-CC 67-56 on Saturday in the Southland Conference opener for both teams.

Smith was 10 of 14 from the field in his double-double performance for the Lumberjacks (10-1).

Antonio Bostic had 12 points, and Hal Bateman had 11 points and nine assists.

The Lumberjacks never trailed in the game and led 28-23 at halftime. The Lumberjacks shot 50 percent from the field for the game, while the Islanders shot 35.6 percent. They also beat the Islanders on rebounds 41-30.

Will Nelson led the Islanders with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Johnathan Jordan added 17 points.

The Islanders (1-9) have lost nine consecutive games.
