Boys basketball: R.A. Long hits nine 3-pointers in 67-47 win at Hockinson

R.A. Long outshot Hockinson in the Hawks’ own gym, hitting nine 3-pointers en route to a 67-47 win Thursday in a 2A Greater St. Helens League game at Hockinson.

The Lumberjacks took control in the second quarter by hitting five 3-pointers to open a 40-24 halftime lead.

Then R.A. Long held the Hawks to eight points in the third quarter to seal the victory.

Landon Irwin led four Lumberjacks with in double figures with 18 points. Lonnie Brown Jr. added 17, Rhet Young had 13 and Payton Thill contributed 10 points.

Ryker Kitchen and Payton Poppe led Hockinson (7-6, 5-4) with nine points each.

The win gave the Lumberjacks (10-3, 6-3) sole possession of fourth-place in the 2A GSHL.

EVERGREEN 93, BATTLE GROUND 65 — Landon Rayner scored a career-high 32 points and Arthur Ban contributed a double-double as the Plainsmen turned up the heat from the get-go to beat visiting Battle Ground in a non-league game.

Rayner had all his points in the first three quarters, sinking six of his team’s 14 3-pointers.

Ban scored 16 points to go with 11 rebounds. Damarien Walden was also in double figures with 15 points for Evergreen (9-5).

Battle Ground (4-9) was led in scoring by Trey Spencer’s 22 points. Austin Ralphs added 11.

LA CENTER 76, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 64 — Austin Nixon scored 28 points as the Wildcats started fast to earn a Trico League home win.

Anthony Larkin scored eight of his 14 points in the first quarter as La Center bolted to a 21-6 lead.

Jaydon Hall did everything he could to keep King’s Way in the game, scoring 34 points.

La Center (4-9, 2-1 Trico) has won two of its last three games.

Ryan Tyler added 16 points, all in the second half, for King’s Way (5-8, 1-2).
