ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Derrick Henry scored five of his six points during a game-ending, 8-0 run as Winthrop edged Hampton 50-43 Sunday in nonconference action.

Henry, who entered as the Eagles’ leading scorer with 14.7 points per game, drained a 3 to put Winthrop (6-5) ahead 45-43 with 3:43 left. Andre Smith followed with a 3-pointer and then Henry closed the scoring with two free throws. Hampton missed its last nine shots.

The Pirates (2-9) forced two ties in the second half but never led until Emmanuel Okoroba hit a jumper from the lane for a 43-42 advantage with 4:06 left. The field goal was Hampton’s last.

The 43 points allowed were the fewest by Winthrop against a Division I opponent this year. The Eagles held Hampton to 23.7 percent (14 of 59) shooting from the field.

Gideon Gamble led Winthrop with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
