PASCO, Wash. (AP) — A Pasco man was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison for a shooting that paralyzed his neighbor.

In a plea deal with Franklin County prosecutors, 54-year-old Froilan Campos-Gonzalez pleaded guilty to attempted assault in the December shooting of 24-year-old Gregg Warehime.

The Tri-City Herald reports (http://is.gd/gBil3w ) Campos-Gonzalez apologized in court but insisted he was choked after he went to Warehime’s house. The neighbors had a history of feuding.

The defense lawyer said Campos-Gonzalez suffered from delusions that may have been fueled by prescription pain medications.

Warehime was a nursing student at the time he was shot. He now uses a wheelchair.
