Bromberg, Cousineau top 10-meter synchro prelims

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Murphy Bromberg and Cheyenne Cousineau topped the women’s 10-meter synchro preliminaries Friday in the U.S. national diving championships.

Bromberg, from Bexley, Ohio, and Cousineau, from Temperance, Mich., had 290.37 points. They placed seventh last month in Spain in the world championships.

In the women’s synchronized 3-meter event, Emma Villarreal of McGregor, Texas, and Brooke Schultz of Fayetteville, Ark., the junior national winner last week, scored 253.38 points to qualify in the top spot.

In men’s 3-meter synchro, Michael Hixon of Amherst, Mass., and Darian Schmidt of Bloomington, Ind., led the preliminaries with 398.07 points. Steele Johnson of Carmel, Ind., and David Dinsmore of New Albany, Ohio, had 420.84 points to finish first in the men’s 10-meter synchro prelims.
