Old Evergreen Highway — Somebody really wants to see the Old Evergreen Highway walking trail get built at last. An anonymous donor made a $20,000 match that helped the Old Evergreen Highway Trail Coalition’s fundraising efforts — including a raffle contest this fall — come within $9,000 of its ultimate $80,000 goal. The coalition now has raised $71,000 for trail planning.

“The raffle contest provided … meaningful and informative conversations about the importance of constructing a safe walkway along the Old Evergreen Highway,” according to the Parks Foundation, which is involved in the effort. Building the entire trail is expected to cost millions — which hasn’t been found yet — but this local fundraising allows preliminary design work, including the nailing down of certain details and related costs, to get done.
