Mountain View — Sixth-grade students in the EXCEL program at Wy’east Middle School did their best to lift the spirits of pediatric patients at Portland’s Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel through handmade holiday cards. This is the fourth year that students in Roberta Uhland’s class created the cards, which contained riddles, jokes or a story. EXCEL is a program in Evergreen Public Schools that caters to talented and gifted students in second through eighth grades. Special curriculum emphasizes decision-making, problem-solving, critical and creative thinking, and self-direction.
