Letter: Lend our collective helping hand

The Columbian
Published: January 11, 2013, 4:00pm

All 50 states should collect a “tax” to help our East Coast community and its suffering citizens to rebuild and get their disrupted lives back on the economic road. Folks impacted by Hurricane Sandy need a helping hand.

How about a 1-cent fee on gasoline per gallon for two months or a one-half of 1 percent tax on all retail sales, also for two months? You will never miss the few bucks it will cost.

We should contact our representatives in Olympia and Washington, D.C., indicating our support for such a “donation” in the hope that they will get the ball rolling now.

Let the state of Washington lead the way.
