Simpson, UNC Greensboro beat Chattanooga 77-69

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Trevis Simpson scored a career-high 41 points to help UNC Greensboro string together back-to-back wins for the first time this season, beating Southern Conference-rival Chattanooga 77-69 Sunday.

Simpson, who had 30 points in the Spartans’ Jan. 24 matchup with Samford, made 14 of 25 shots and tied a career-high with seven 3-pointers. Nicholas Paulos aided Simpson with 11 points off the bench as UNC Greensboro’s other four starters went a combined 7 for 29.

Z. Mason had 17 points and 11 boards for Chattanooga (8-13, 3-5), which has lost two straight and four of its last five.

UNC Greensboro (6-13, 4-4) led 43-34 at halftime. Chattanooga cut the deficit to 67-65 with 2:14 left behind consecutive baskets by Mason but the Spartans scored eight straight to pull away.

The Mocs outshot UNC Greensboro 44 percent (22 of 50) to 40.6 percent (26 of 64), but the Spartans converted 11 treys.
