I-5 Bridge cleared following accident

Traffic backup lasted for miles

All lanes of the southbound span of the Interstate 5 bridge have reopened after one of the bigger traffic snarls in recent months.

The snarl was due to a rush-hour accident this morning. Traffic backed up to Hazel Dell, and some motorists were parked on the freeway. Others diverted to Interstate 205, but many were simply stuck on the freeway.

The accident occurred around 8 a.m. and involved two passenger cars and a tractor-trailer, according to the Washington State Patrol. No one was reported injured. It took two tow trucks to clear the bridge. The lanes reopened just before 9 a.m.
