NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Mark Leiter Jr. had 20 strikeouts in a complete game in New Jersey Institute of Technology’s 5-3 victory over Chicago State on Friday night.

The senior right-hander, the son of former major league pitcher Mark Leiter and nephew of former major league pitcher Al Leiter, got his last eight outs on strikeouts. He gave up Dylan Sterrett’s three-run homer in the seventh and allowed four hits and two walks.

Leiter set a mark for the most strikeouts in an NCAA Division I game this season. His previous high was 14, also at home against Chicago State in a seven-inning victory in May 2011.

Leiter is 5-6 this season with a 3.86 earned-run average and 90 strikeouts in 81 2-3 innings.
