Cleveland St. comes back against Iona 73-69

CLEVELAND (AP) — Trey Lewis scored seven of his team’s last nine points as Cleveland State defeated Iona 73-69 in a season opening win on Saturday.

The Vikings (1-0) trailed Iona (0-1) by 15 at halftime, but climbed back into a tie at 64-64 on a Bryn Forbes 3-pointer with 4:03 to play. Forbes finished with a game-high 22 points, Anton Grady added 13, Lewis 12 and Jon Harris 10.

Lewis hit a layup to tie at 66 and added a 3-pointer put the Vikings ahead, 69-67.

Iona’s David Laury tied the game at 69 with a jumper but the Gaels didn’t score again in the final 1:51. Lewis and Anton Grady each hit a pair of free throws in the final 25 seconds to preserve the win.

Laury led Iona with 19 points and 10 rebounds, but missed two free throws in the last six seconds. Sean Armand added 17 points.
