NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Javier Duren and Nick Victor each scored 16 points and all five starters reached double-figure scoring for Yale, which won its home opener Tuesday night with an 80-65 defeat of Sacred Heart.

The balanced scoring for the Bulldogs (2-2) was augmented with 13 points from Justin Sears, 11 from Armani Cotton and 10 from Brandon Sherrod. Sears added nine rebounds and Duren four assists.

Evan Kelly scored a game-high 22 points for Sacred Heart (0-4) and Leo Vincent added 14 and Chris Evans 13. The Pioneers had defeated Yale in four of their last five meetings.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Kelly midway through the first half gave Sacred Heart brief one-point leads, but each time Yale’s Sherrod answered with a basket — once converting a three-point play after a Kelly foul — and the Bulldogs walked away to lead by 13 at halftime. Yale outrebounded the Pioneers 40-28.
