A 73-year-old Vancouver man has been identified as the victim following a Tuesday afternoon auto crash near Lake Oswego, Ore.

George Schaefer died at the scene of the wreck, which occurred about 3:05 p.m. on Highway 43 near Southwest Radcliffe Road, in the Riverdale area.

Multnomah County sheriff’s deputies said Schaefer was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser southbound when he crossed over the center line and struck a northbound pickup head-on.

The occupants of the pickup, identified as driver Corey Winkle, 28, of Troutdale, Ore., and passenger Christopher Hicks of Vancouver, were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that weren’t life threatening.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
