A Kalama man died Friday afternoon in a dirt bike crash on Larch Mountain in the Yacolt Burn State Forest.

The crash was reported at 12:30 p.m. on the Department of Natural Resources L-1500 Road. A group of people were riding off-road vehicles in the Jones Creek recreational area. They lost track of one of the riders and backtracked on the trail to find he had crashed off the trail and was dead, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, 41, whose name was not released, was wearing a helmet and protective riding gear.

A detective with the sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit investigated the incident, per standard procedure for traumatic injury deaths. The Clark County Medical Examiner is determining the cause of death and notifying the rider’s family.
