The Columbian
Published: April 23, 2014, 5:00pm

A free clinic on catching northern pikeminnow in the sport reward program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 2108 Grand Blvd.

Guest speakers will be Eric Winther, project leader, and Tim Histand, a perennial top 10 money earner, in the program. In 2013, Histand caught 3,571 pike minnow and earned almost $30,000.

The reward season begins May 1. Anglers in the Columbia and lower Snake rives are paid between $4 and $8 per pikeminnow that is 9 inches or longer. Tagged fish are worth $500.

For more information, go online to www.pikeminnow.org. The site also has a coupon worth $10 when attached to a pikeminnow voucher.
