A Vancouver man rescued from a burning house early Wednesday remains in critical condition at the Legacy Oregon Burn Center on the Legacy Emanuel campus in Portland.

When firefighters arrived to the fire in the Sifton neighborhood, they saw flames coming out of the back of the single-story house. A woman told first responders that a man was still inside.

George Henderson, 75, was rescued by firefighters and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. He was later transferred to the burn center.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire, which appeared to have started ina food smoker on the back patio.
