SHELTON — Firefighters and Mason County deputies went to the aid of a big white great Dane that became stuck in the mud on Monday at Hammersly Inlet near Shelton.

Rescuers couldn’t reach the dog from the beach so the sheriff’s office dispatched a patrol boat. The boat was approaching when the dog was able to free itself.

The sheriff’s office tweeted that the dog is named Polar. The owner is very happy he got home and grateful for the attempted rescue.
