Edgewood Park — Three middle school students at the Washington School for the Deaf were picked as finalists in a national “Battle of the Books” literacy competition.
Seventh-graders Jadzia Ingram, Mai Truong and Cristian Martinez-White won a free trip to the finals of the competition, to be held in May at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.
To become finalists, the students studied four books and proved their knowledge against competitors from 30 other schools.
