Prep highlights: Skyview’s Ward-El makes all-state team

Skyview senior Aubrey Ward-El was the only Clark County athlete to earn a spot on the Associated Press all-state first team for basketball.

Ward, The Columbian All-Region player of the year, was voted to the 4A girls first team via a statewide panel of media members.

Earning honorable mention were Evergreen’s Robert Franks (4A boys), Prairie’s Nicole Goecke (3A girls) and Woodland’s Jessica Flanagan (1A girls).

Stars of the day

  • Mitchell Pinney, Hockinson soccer, scored all three goals in a 3-2 win over Washougal. It was the second time this week the Hawks rallied from a two-goal deficit.
  • Jacob Albee, Union baseball, hit a home run and drove in three runs in a win over Evergreen.
  • Connor Gilroy, King’s Way Christian soccer, scored three goals in a 4-1 win over Woodland, helping King’s Way to its first victory of the season.
  • Alex Firl, La Center soccer, scored three first-half goals on headers as the Wildcats beat Stevenson 5-1 to improve to 5-0.
  • John Polen, Seton Catholic soccer, scored on a “belly ball” off a corner kick in overtime to beat White Salmon 2-1.
