A shirtless man who seemed to be impaired walked in and out of traffic Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 5 in southwest Vancouver, according to police.

The incident was reported at about 2:45 p.m. near the Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay. Washington State Patrol troopers tried to get the 46-year-old Tacoma man into custody, but he evaded officers first by walking onto lanes of Interstate 5 and then by running up onto a railroad berm.

Officers from the Vancouver Police Department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office assisted in cornering the man. He was immobilized with a stun gun, taken into custody and sent to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, WSP Sgt. Ryan Tanner said.

The man’s name was not released.
