Camas-Washougal’s first trip to a Babe Ruth Baseball World Series ended with a Wednesday loss to a team from Maine.

A four-run second inning was the difference as New England champion Tri-Valley beat Camas-Washougal 7-3 at the Babe Ruth World Series for 13-year-olds at Jamestown, N.Y. At 1-3 in pool play, Camas-Washougal cannot advance to the elimination phase of the tournament.

Gideon Malychewski capped a strong tournament for Camas-Washougal. The leadoff hitter was 2 for 3 with a triple and scored two runs on Wednesday.

Tyler Forner was 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored. Kolby Broadbent had a double and RBI, and Logan Kearsey had a base hit for Camas-Washougal.

Jonny Pruett doubled in the first inning and tripled in the second to lead the Maine team to an early 6-1 lead. Camas-Washougal pulled within 6-3 after five innings but could not make a final rally.

A win Wednesday would have advanced Camas-Washougal to Thursday’s quarterfinal round ahead of Maine, which suffered its first loss of the tournament early Wednesday before taking on Camas-Washougal.
