Vancouver — Washington State University Vancouver has received an award for a program it offers to help small businesses improve and grow.

The university said Friday that the American Association of State Colleges and Universities has honored its Business Growth Mentor & Analysis Program with the association’s Regional and Economic Development Award.

The awards program, in its second year, recognizes state colleges and universities for excellence and innovation in student success and college completion; regional and economic development; leadership development and diversity; and international education.

Awards will be presented Oct. 25 at the opening session of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ annual meeting in Austin, Texas.

Washington State University Vancouver’s Business Growth Mentor & Analysis Program is a pro-bono, student-conducted effort. It helps prepare students for the workforce by giving them experience with real business issues.
