Steelhead flyfishing clinic slated Saturday in Portland

PORTLAND — A free clinic on winter steelhead flytying and fishing tips will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Northwest Fly Fishing Outfitters, 10910 N.E. Halsey.

Guide Ted Neely will discuss which flies to tie, where to fish, reading water and more.

A second free clinic on river photography skills will begin at 10 a.m. Jan. 24. Juan Calvillo from cavillophoto.com will give a presentation on basic fishing and outdoor photography.

He will cover point-and-shoot and SLR cameras. Cavillo will discuss alternative shooting styles other than having the angler and fish in the center of the frame.

Dealing with reflections from sunlight and camera settings will be included along with ethical methods for handling fish for photos.
