At least one lane of eastbound state Highway 14 was closed Wednesday evening as firefighters battled a brush fire along the side of the roadway east of Interstate 205, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.
At around 9:30 p.m., several people called 911 to report seeing smoke from the Glenn Jackson Bridge. Fire crews later located a fire, about 100 feet wide, just east of I-205, according to emergency radio traffic. It reportedly was burning in the wooded area south of Highway 14 and north of Southeast Evergreen Highway.
The fire was knocked down by about 10:40 p.m.
