East Vancouver — In a library not quite far, far away, Darth Vader showed kids how to build a light saber, the White Power Ranger played foosball and Iron Man checked out a book about himself. It was not a dream, however.

It is the third annual Sci-Fi Fantasy Family Night at Shahala Middle School, organized by Paul Warner, library and instructional technology teacher at the school and a self-described “Jedi master.”

The March 12 book fair sold the most books in the event’s history, according to Warner, and also raised more than $300 in donations for Gales Creek Camp for children and teens with diabetes.

There was also science fiction trivia, a costume contest and games. Also dressing up for the event were members of the Portland Superhero Coalition and Cloud City Garrison, two groups who dress up in high-quality costumes for various events.
