A Clark County Jail inmate died today of an apparent suicide, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 5:05 p.m., the inmate, who was housed alone in his cell, was found unresponsive, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. Corrections deputies and jail medical staff tried to save the inmate’s life. The Vancouver Fire Department also responded.

Their efforts were unsuccessful, however, and the inmate was pronounced dead at 5:23 p.m., according to the news release.

Detectives from the Regional Major Crimes Team are investigating the inmate’s death. Additional details about the incident weren’t released today.

The jail is at 707 W. 13th St. in downtown Vancouver.
