Top-notch passing and strong play from its outside hitters carried the Woodland volleyball team to a big win on Thursday.

The Beavers beat host Ridgefield in four sets to move into a tie atop the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League standings. Woodland’s 25-18, 25-21, 11-25, 26-24 win leaves both teams with six wins and one loss in league play.

Ridgefield won at Woodland on Sept. 15.

“The first two games our ball control was excellent. We were playing at a really high level,” Woodland coach Jeff Nesbitt said.

After Ridgefield dominated the third set, the Beavers prevailed in a tight fourth set to finish off their first win over Ridgefield in several years.

“Our passing and serve-receive picked up in the last game,” Nesbitt said.

The coach praised the play of outside hitters Kayla Fredricks and Rikki Hadaller, who combined for 20 kills and 37 digs.

Haley Yoder added 10 kills and four blocks for the Beavers, Taylor Foster had eight kills, Halylee Michaud had 20 digs and Elle Nesbitt 35 assists.

For Ridgefield, Madi Harter had 23 kills and Bella Gama 44 assists.
