While Evergreen Public Schools is mired in a contract dispute, all around Clark County, schools are preparing to open for the 2016-2017 school year.

Below is the first day of school for each district in the county. Labor Day is Sept. 5. Seven districts start before Labor Day; three start after Labor Day.

• Wednesday: Evergreen, Green Mountain, Hockinson, La Center, Vancouver and Woodland.

• Sept. 6: Camas.

• Sept. 7: Battle Ground, Washougal.

• Ridgefield: Three start dates.

In Ridgefield, grades 1-7 and 9 start Tuesday; grades 8, 10, 11 and 12 start Wednesday; and kindergarten starts Thursday.

Superintendent Nathan McCann explained Ridgefield’s three different start dates. On the first official day of school, Tuesday, “we host a special transition day for rising middle-schoolers (seventh-graders) and rising freshmen and have the staff at both of those schools focus exclusively on those students on day one.”

Kindergartners start two days late to allow their teachers to meet with parents.
