The man killed Monday west of Battle Ground following a bank robbery in Vancouver died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The medical examiner’s office also determined Kenneth Allen Pointer’s manner of death was a homicide, which simply means someone else’s actions led to his death.

Police identified Pointer, 43, of Portland as the suspect in a Monday afternoon robbery at a US Bank branch in Vancouver, at 1607 Main St. Witnesses did not report seeing a weapon during the robbery, police said.

Vancouver Police Department officers, Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers caught up with Pointer’s vehicle west of Battle Ground. A deputy stopped his vehicle at the intersection of Northeast 10th Avenue and 219th Street/state Highway 502 in the community of Duluth.

The deputy who stopped Pointer’s vehicle also fired his weapon, police said.

The deputy has not been identified. As is customary in shooting incidents, he has been put on paid leave.
