Girls golf: Washougal’s Sakamoto wins 2A district by 15 shots

Hockinson beats Washougal for team title

Washougal’s Kallie Sakamoto followed up her first-round 79 with an 82 on Wednesday to win the 2A district girls golf title by 15 strokes.

Sakamoto finished her round Wednesday birdie-birdie-par-bogey to post a 161 total. Ridgefield’s Kayla Besel shot 176, moving up from fifth to place second. Cameron Bielat of Hockinson was third (179) and Xaalen Dolence of Hudson’s Bay was fourth (180).

Hockinson took home the team title with a score of 104.5. Washougal was second at 99.5.

Hallie Escola of Hockinson, Alissa Lenczowski of Washougal, Xaaran Dolence of Hudson’s Bay, Jillian Christensen of Hockinson and Hailee Collins of Woodland also clinched state berths.

1A district — King’s Way Christian senior Kiley Shorthouse shot 203 for 36 holes to place fifth at the 1A district tournament in Tumwater and earn her first state tournament berth. Shorthouse shot 99 and 104 over the two days.
