A man with a gun stole around $200 in cash and a cellphone battery from a man standing outside of his apartment building Wednesday night.

Vancouver Police Department officers responded to an armed robbery call at the Monterey Apartments, 905 S.E. 136th Ave. in east Vancouver at around 7 p.m.

Vancouver police Sgt. Mike Chylack said a man who used a navy-blue shirt to obstruct his face approached a victim and demanded the money. The assailant also took the man’s phone battery, Chylack said, adding time between the robbery and the 911 call.

The robber ran off. Officers responded and searched the area with the help of a police dog, but were unable to locate him.
