Brooke Walling’s next chapter: the Fresno State Bulldogs.

The Prairie High School junior and two-time reigning Columbian All-Region girls basketball player of the year has verbally committed to the Mountain West Conference school. Walling announced her commitment Saturday morning on Twitter.

Walling joins a Fresno State team that finished 17-15 overall and fifth in the Mountain West at 11-7. It made its 16 postseason appearance in program history by reaching the second round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational.

The 6-foot-3 versatile forward averaged better than 17 points and eight rebounds a game in 2017-18 to lead the Falcons back to the Class 3A state tournament. Prairie’s season ended with a 49-45 round-of-12 loss to Stanwood despite a season-high 27 points from Walling. After the season, she repeated as The Columbian’s All-Region player of the year and was named first-team all-state in Class 3A. On Jan. 26, Walling surpassed 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.

Walling is the second Prairie player to verbally commit to a Division I women’s basketball program for the class of 2019. Cassidy Gardner, also a junior, committed to Portland State last month.

Prairie is expected to return its entire roster for 2018-19 after having zero seniors last season.
