First Friday Gallery Openings

Art galleries and local business celebrate this month’s art shows with a First Friday Art Walk in downtown Vancouver. From 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 3, visitors can explore opening receptions at participating art galleries, along with events and local music. Visit www.vdausa.org

Art in the Heart Sidewalk Show & Sale, 4 to 9 p.m. Aug. 3; art on display through August. Aurora Gallery’s annual Art in the Heart sidewalk show and sale features a dozen noted local artists selling their one-of-a-kind fine artworks both inside and outside the gallery, which also includes a fine art framing store. The gallery is offering 20 percent off all framing jobs during the month of August. Art will be for sale in the gallery all month, but the artists will only be at the gallery on Aug. 3. “Greetings from Cuba: Photographs by Jodi Tripp,” 4 to 9 p.m. (one night only). See Jodi Tripp’s photographs from Cuba at Aurora Gallery during a First Friday Art Walk reception. “Sin?”, through Sept. 1. This exhibit explores the concept of sin and evil and how it is expressed in fine art. This is a juried show featuring artists Michele Collier, Jessica Damsky, Kayla Griffin, Cynthia Heise, Anne John, Clarice Keegan, Ryan W. Kelly, Meredith Lewis, Marc M. McVey, Ruth Ross, Sally Sellers, Noah Alexander, Iaac Stein, Dale Strouse and Samyak Yamauchi. Vancouver Native Artist Series: Visual Artist Roben White, 5 to 8 p.m., Aug. 3 (one night only). Artist and local activist (a self-described “artivist”) Roben White works with a variety of media including oils, acrylics and chalk pastels. He is a participant on volunteer boards and advisory councils including NAYA, the Portland Youth and Elders Council and Washington State University Vancouver. Refreshingly passionate, White is a storyteller who will engage you with his words and captivate you with his art, which is informed and inspired by his activism in environmental, Native, human rights and labor issues. White lives, creates and exhibits in Clark County, and his works have been displayed at the Orenda Gallery in Paris, France. The subject matter in these acrylic paintings and pastels reflects his experience over the winter of 2016-2017 at the #NoDAPL prayer camps at Standing Rock, North Dakota. First Friday in Camas runs 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 3 with art galleries offering artist receptions, plus additional activities in downtown businesses.

Ceramics and Paintings by Teri Axness, through Sept. 1. Whimsical and witty contemporary artist Teri Axness creates expressive ceramic pieces and paintings that often feature personality-infused animals.
