Letter: Take action, don’t complain

Larry J. Coatney’s letter, “Don’t demonize the other side” (Aug. 11, Our Readers’ Views) was a perfect example of “conservative fragility” — the inability of conservatives to tolerate, let alone acknowledge or take responsibility for the real disastrous results of conservative policies.

Coatney complained about Sarah Martin’s letter of Aug. 4 (“Agenda is boldly offensive”). Coatney was in high dudgeon over the fact that Martin mentioned that Republican politicians are associated with “racism, sexism, xenophobia, white supremacy and state-sanctioned child abduction.” What Martin wrote was true.

If Coatney wishes not to be offended, perhaps he should work with conservatives to criticize instances of racism, sexism, xenophobia, white supremacy and state-sanctioned child abduction among Republican politicians, rather than complain about people pointing out the truth.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
