Impaired driving patrols to increase

Additional officers will be out patrolling around Clark County from Friday to Jan. 1, keeping an eye out for impaired drivers.

The additional patrols, paid for with a state grant, kick off after the Night of a Thousand Stars event at 6:30 p.m. Friday, where law enforcement, prevention officials and community members are honored for their work in traffic safety.

The event will be held at the Washington State Patrol’s Vancouver headquarters building, 11018 N.E. 51st Circle. There will be appetizers and beverages.

Ten kittens who came to Furry Friends from a hoarding situation in Cowlitz County in June have healed and are ready to be adopted.

The kittens were “near death” when Furry Friends took them in, Diane Stevens, marketing director for Furry Friends, said in October.

Furry Friends will hold an adoption event for the kittens from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at The Cats Meow Luxury Boarding, 330 N.E. Chkalov Drive, Suite B, Vancouver.

Dena Hugh, a Furry Friends volunteer since December 2015, fostered all 10 kittens and kept them in her “Kitten Room.” Hugh spent two to three hours with the kittens daily, and had to put on a medical gown before visiting with them so as to not spread their ringworm infections.

The kittens cost Furry Friends around $10,000 to nurse back to health. For more information, visit www.furryfriendswa.org.
