Vancouver police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash on Northeast Burton Road in which the rider hit a median and lost control.

Officers responded to the crash in the 8000 block of Northeast Burton Road around 3 a.m., according to a Vancouver Police Department news release.

The motorcycle was reportedly following an acquaintance driving an SUV, which tried to pass a vehicle in front of them on the road and ended up striking a median, police said.

“The motorcycle also attempted to pass, hit the same median, lost control and crashed,” police said.

The man driving the motorcycle died at the scene. Police did not provide his name. Impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.

Burton Road between 78th and 86th avenues remained closed Friday morning, with the police department’s traffic unit investigating the crash.
