Fog developed early Monday in the Portland-Vancouver area, with forecasters predicting it would likely become more widespread as the morning continued.

In response, the National Weather Service in Portland has issued a dense fog advisory, which will remain in effect until 11 a.m.

Visibility is reduced to a quarter-mile at some spots around Vancouver. The fog is thick in the downtown area, closest to the Columbia River.

The advisory also includes the Clark County communities of Battle Ground, Washougal, Ridgefield, Yacolt and Amboy.

“Motorists should be prepared for abrupt changes in visibilities over short distances when traveling along the (Interstate 5) corridor between Kelso/Longview and Eugene including the Portland/Vancouver metro,” the advisory says.

Motorists are asked to slow down and leave plenty of distance ahead on the roadway.

The fog will reappear Monday night around 11 p.m., according to the weather service. Then, rainfall is likely through Sunday.
