The Titans can forever say they won the first game in Mount Si’s new gym.

And took down the Seattle Times preseason No. 1-ranked team in the process.

Behind 28 points from Tanner Toolson, the Union boys basketball team knocked off No. 1 Mount Si 68-51 on Saturday in Snoqualmie.

“Toolson was on fire tonight,” Union coach Blake Conley said. “And his defense was amazing too.”

Toolson was 6 for 6 from behind the 3-point arc, 4 for 4 from the free-throw line and also had five rebounds.

Kaden Horn added 18 points and Brad Lackey 10 for the Seattle Times’ No. 2-ranked Titans (6-0).

After a 10-10 first quarter, Union was able to pull away by outscoring Mount Si 22-15 in the second quarter.

Jabe Mullins and Tyler Patterson scored 17 points each for Mount Si (1-2), last year’s 4A state runner-up.

OLYMPIA 67, BATTLE GROUND 46 — The Tigers just couldn’t get over the hump despite staying close until the end when Olympia pulled away for the home victory.

The game featured two NCAA Division I commits in Battle Ground’s Kaden Perry (Gonzaga) and Olympia’s Jackson Grant (Washington). But both players battled through foul trouble.

Perry scored 14 points and played with three fouls in the first half. He fouled out with 5:54 to play.

Grant finished with 15 points while playing with three fouls.

“It was close all game, we just couldn’t get over the hump,” Battle Ground coach Manny Melo said. “They made 3s, which isn’t typical for them, but hat’s off to hitting the open shot. It was a tough game.”

Nate Millspaugh led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points.

TUMWATER 61, HOCKINSON 49 — The Hawks got off to a slow start, but played a solid second half.

SEATTLE ACADEMY 72, SETON CATHOLIC 58 — Kellen Ball and Gabe Anderson each scored 15 points, but it wasn’t enough against one of the state’s top 1A teams.

Xavian Rushing added 10 points for the Cougars (1-4).

UNION 52, SNOHOMISH 43 — The Titans built an early lead, then clamped down on defense to remain undefeated.

Lexi Raymore hit two 3-pointers to help Union lead 20-12 after the first quarter. Union (6-0) extended that lead and entered the fourth quarter up 48-31.

Mason Oberg led the Titans with 11 points while Mackenzie Lewis added 10.

Snohomish, which finished fourth in the 3A state playoffs last year, fell to 1-4.

GLACIER PEAK 61, PRAIRIE 40 — Meri Dunford had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, but the Falcons couldn’t keep up with Glacier Peak, which had 22 offensive rebounds.
