Lakewood man struck, killed on Interstate 5 near Ridgefield

A Lakewood man was killed early Monday on Interstate 5 near Ridgefield when he ran into the path of a semitractor-trailer, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Brian N. Wambaa, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene following the 1:45 a.m. collision in the northbound lanes of I-5 near Milepost 10, according to a WSP bulletin.

Vancouver woman’s DNA leads to arrest in 1979 Iowa killing

A Vancouver woman unknowingly provided critical DNA information that led police to arrest a distant relative in a 39-year-old homicide case in Iowa.

Brandy Jennings said her parents divorced when she was young, and she barely knew her father. Years after his death in 2009, she decided to try to find out more about his side of the family.

Woman sentenced in viral Moulton Falls bridge-shoving incident

Tay’Lor Smith, who pleaded guilty last week to a charge of reckless endangerment stemming from pushing Jordan Holgerson of Kalama off the bridge at Moulton Falls Regional Park in August, was sentenced Wednesday afternoon to two days in jail and 38 days on a county work crew.

Smith’s charge is a gross misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine. The Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office recommended 60 days of home confinement, 30 days of service with a work crew and 30 days of community service.

Settlement: Vancouver dentists to pay $1 million to Medicaid

State Attorney General Bob Ferguson has reached a $1 million settlement with two Vancouver dentists and their business, CareOne Dental, over allegations that they defrauded Medicaid.

It is the second-largest resolution of a Medicaid False Claims Act case in Washington, according to the State Attorney General’s office.

‘Idol’ curiosity for Vancouver’s Mac Potts

Many local folks will be tuning in to “American Idol” on Sunday and Monday to see if Vancouver pianist and singer Mac Potts gets featured on the popular talent show.

One of those curious viewers will be Mac Potts himself, who said he has no idea if, when, or how big or small a spot it might turn out to be.

“I might be shown Sunday night. I might be shown Monday night,” he said. “All I can tell everyone is, ‘I’ll be watching too.’ ”
