As Hockinson’s football team begins the postseason this week on its quest for a third consecutive Class 2A state title, the Hawks will have to do so without its star receiver.

Senior Peyton Brammer told The Columbian on Sunday afternoon his knee injury suffered in a game Oct. 25 requires surgery, and prematurely ends his football season for the second straight year.

“This is the end of my high school athletic journey,” Brammer said in the message.

The injury happened on a tackle following a catch in the first quarter of Hockinson’s 34-16 win over Washougal. He did not return to the game.

Brammer caught 33 passes for 703 yards and 11 touchdowns this season for Hockinson (8-1).

Brammer’s injury is the second season-ending knee injury for the Hawks, who also lost reigning 2A state player of the year Sawyer Racanelli (University of Washington commit) in June to a knee injury.

Brammer is a 6-foot-4 receiver and defensive back who has both football and basketball college scholarship offers. He said test results revealed multiple torn ligaments and is awaiting a second opinion and surgery information.

Brammer’s junior season in football ended in the 2A state quarterfinals with a foot fracture, but returned late in the basketball season to lead the team to districts. He set a single-game school record scoring 50 points against Woodland on Feb. 6.

Brammer’s injury the latest of a slew of recent season-ending injuries for a number of Clark County football teams. Camas quarterback Jake Blair (collarbone) and Union quarterback CJ Jordan (knee) suffered injuries in Week 8. Ridgefield’s Aidan Hundt broke his leg in a road loss to Hockinson on Friday.

The Hawks (8-1) open the playoff Saturday hosting the fourth-place seed from a tiebreaker between Aberdeen, Black Hills and Centralia.
