Man dies after crashing SUV into pole north of Vancouver

A Battle Ground man was killed Tuesday night after he crashed into a power pole north of Vancouver.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies and Vancouver firefighters were dispatched shortly before 6 p.m. to the 10200 block of Northeast 72nd Avenue for a single-vehicle crash.

First responders found that a southbound 2019 Buick Enclave, driven by Bryan A. Martin III, had traveled off the west side of the road. The vehicle struck two trees and a power pole, before going through a cyclone fence at Montage Dog and Cat Boarding, 10200 N.E. 72nd Ave. Live power lines were down across the road, according to a news release from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Martin, 62, the only occupant of the vehicle, was unconscious and unresponsive, the sheriff’s office said.

“Lifesaving efforts were undertaken at the scene and while en route to the hospital,” the sheriff’s office said. “Sadly, the driver was pronounced dead at the hospital.”

The sheriff’s office traffic unit is investigating proximate causes to the crash, the news release states. The road near the scene was shut down during the investigation and removal of the downed power lines.
