Volleyball: King’s Way Christian, Castle Rock alive for 1A trophy

King’s Way Christian remains alive for a trophy after splitting its two matches at the state tournament in Yakima.

The Knights opened with a 3-0 loss to Overlake (26-24, 25-15, 26-24) before beating La Salle 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23) in a loser-out match.

King’s Way faces another loser-out match at 11 a.m Saturday against Charles Wright of Tacoma.

Castle Rock also remains alive after falling to Meridian in the first round 3-1 (25-17, 13-25, 25-19, 26-24) before beating Okanogan 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-14).

Castle Rock plays Goldendale at 11 a.m. Saturday.

4A bi-district — Camas and Skyview both face winner-to-state/loser-out matches Saturday at the bi-district tournament in University Place.

Both teams won first-round matches — Skyview beat Enumclaw 3-0 and Camas beat Mount Rainer 3-0. But both lost in the quarterfinals — Skyview to Graham-Kapowsin 3-0 and Camas to Emerald Ridge 3-0.

Camas meets Auburn Saturday for a chance to clinch a state berth. Skyview will do the same against Kentwood.

3A bi-district — Kelso, Prairie and Mountain View all dropped into the consolation bracket on Friday.

Prairie opened with a 3-1 win over North Thurston before falling to Peninsula 3-0 in the quarterfinals.

Mountain View lost to Spanaway Lake in the first round 3-1. Kelso lost to Gig Harbor 3-1 in the quarterfinals. All three teams must win two-loser out games on Saturday to reach state starting with Prairie vs. Wilson, Mountain View vs. Stadium and Kelso vs. North Thurston.
