A driver who rear-ended a tractor-trailer early Wednesday morning on Interstate 5 fled the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The tractor-trailer and a red 2008 BMW were traveling north on I-5 near Mill Plain Boulevard in the middle lane at about 1:45 a.m., a state patrol crash memo reads.

Troopers say the BMW’s speed caused the crash. The hit-and-run driver was not identified, and the totaled vehicle was towed from the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as Andrew J. Prevost, 43, of Portland, was uninjured.
