Evergreen swimmer Ilia Zablotovskii is the Week 5 winter sports prep athlete of the week

Zablotovskii beat out Ridgefield's Tyla Engstrom

Evergreen swimmer Ilia Zablotovskii is  The Columbian winter sports prep athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 18.

Zablotovskii received 856 votes of the 2,493 votes cast this week to edge out Ridgefield wrestler Tyla Engstrom by eight votes.

Zablotovskii set meet and pool records in winning in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events at the Kelso Invitational.

Winners of athlete of the week may not be nominated again until the postseason. Athletes cannot be nominated in consecutive weeks.

The other Week 5 nominees were:

  • TYLA ENGSTROM RIDGEFIELD GIRLS WRESTLING: Engstrom recorded three pins to win the 110-pound division at the Clark County Championships.
  • ANNA GATLIN, PRAIRIE BOWLING: Gatlin averaged 190 over six games, including a high game of 247.
  • CJ HAMBLIN SETON CATHOLIC BOYS WRESTLING: Hamblin recorded four pins to win the 152-pound division at the Clark County Championships.
  • JAYDIA MARTIN, HUDSON’S BAY GIRLS BASKETBALL: Martin scored 26 and 18 points in two league wins, keeping the Eagles unbeaten in league play.
